Car Electrical System Components
During the old days, electricity was only used to ignite
the fuel inside the engine. Today, due to other electrical auto features such as headlights,
radios and even windows and doors, electricity is utilized to run a car more smoothly and offer comfort to the driver. A car electrical system is usually made of different components in order to operate all things that need electricity. There are battery, fuse, switches, electronic controller, wiring, and electrical
connectors. The combination of these parts is necessary to route power to the desired car accessory.
Here are the different components of a car electrical system and how each of them functions:
Battery. This is the most important component of an electrical system. The engine utilizes electricity from the battery to start the vehicle. The battery
voltage should read between 12.6 and 12.4 volts.
Alternator. When the battery starts the engine, the electrical system is energized
and recharged by the alternator that is powered by the engine. The alternator is connected to the engine
by a belt and uses the belt movement to generate electricity to power all the car's electric accessories
and to recharge the battery. This part maintains its supply of electricity and keeps the voltage at
the right level.
Blown Fuse. It is designed to break the voltage flow in the event of a power overload or short circuit. It ensures that any minor electrical
faults do not develop from becoming major problems.
